Build Your Business With SEO
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is all about getting your website to the top of the list with search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. When building a website, there are a lot things we have keep in mind to help with search results. Some of the optimization takes place on the code level, things like adding titles to content, and building a sitemap, but most of the work is within the content of the website.
Search engines look at what are called keywords in the content of your site to rank it in search results. The more often relevant keywords show up in your site the better off you are. Picking relevant keywords can be tricky because you have to know how people search things. As a basic example, you may be a car dealership and want to focus on selling all kinds of vehicles, so you decide “vehicle” will be one of your keywords. Chances are, most people are not going to search vehicle, instead they may look for something more specific like “car” or “truck”. On the other hand, there may be hundreds of other sites all competing for “car” or “truck”, but less competing for “vehicles”. It will be easier to get to the top of the list for people searching “vehicles” than it will be for people searching “cars” or “trucks” simply because there are less websites competing for that keyword. Once keywords are selected, it is important to make sure those keywords are used throughout your site. We keep this in mind when writing content, but if you are supplying or creating new content it is important that you continue to use your keywords. In addition to keywords, proper navigation also helps search engines.
One way of making it easier for search engines to navigate your site is by creating a sitemap. A sitemap is a file, located on your site, that lists off each page that you want search engines to look at. We can create a sitemap that updates itself when you add new content, making it visible to search engines much faster. Since its automatic you don’t even have to think about it. Unfortunately, there is more to SEO than keywords and sitemaps.
Even with great keywords and an organized site, there is still more you can do to improve your rankings through social media and external sources. Having a lot of traffic is another factor in upping your SEO rating, and the easiest way to do this is to advertise, either through purchasing ads or through social media. If your company does not already use social media such as Facebook or Twitter, we can help set you up and get you started. Linking your social media accounts with your website can be an easy way of drawing in more traffic.
